IT’S a film that still resonates deeply with Australians — and now you can get the first look at the stirring, beautiful trailer for the long-awaited reimagined Storm Boy, filmed here in SA.

THE remake of Colin Thiele’s beloved Storm Boy, about an isolated boy who raises a pelican, will be in cinemas in January.

The first trailer of the big-budget remake has been released, starring Jai Courtney (Divergent) as the reclusive father Hideaway Tom, and Geoffrey Rush as the original ‘Storm Boy’ who is now a grandfather, telling the story to his troubled granddaughter.

The South Australian Coorong is once again the backdrop for the story, with the broad expanse of Ninety Mile Beach and the main street of Port Elliot recognisable to locals.

The new Storm Boy, Mike Kingley, is played by Queensland newcomer, Finn Little, while the role of Fingerbone Bill made famous by David Gulpilil is filled by Trevor Jamieson — although Gulpilil makes a guest appearance.

The film is due to open in cinemas on January 10, taking advantage of the school holidays.
